Myer Heritage was established by Myer Department Stores from the 1940’s through to the 1960’s and were seen as an aspirational purchase for the burgeoning middle class in Australia at the time. Well known furniture designer Fred Ward designed the Myer collection, was heavily influenced by Scandinavian design, and loved to use native timbers in his pieces.
This piece is made using Tasmanian Myrtle which is a highly coveted wood, with exceptional strength and density, Tasmanian Myrtle is an expensive great quality wood. It is important to conserve these beautiful well made mid century pieces.
This piece has been sanded back, cleaned and re-oiled with multiple coats for a strong protective finish.

At Upcycld we carefully curate antique and mid century designer furniture and painstakingly transform them in to one of a kind pieces, that are proudly 100% recycled. Our pieces are refinished using the best professional grade primers, paints, oils and top coats, sprayed through a professional spray gun for a beautiful finish.
Our painted pieces have 2 coats of stain blocking primer, 2 coats of adhesion primer, and 3 coats of a water based acrylic paint for a hardwearing finish on your statement piece.
Our restored to vintage pieces are gently stripped and sanded back, and are oiled multiple times using top quality professional grade products.
Occasionally we sell pieces in their original vintage condition to preserve the mid century patina, or if the piece only required minor conservative restorations.
